splendour boosts business at mansion house |
| |
Bristol's
stately Mansion House - the official residence of the Lord Mayor
- is proving a popular business conference venue following a major
£90,000 make-over by interior design specialists i.d.space. |
| |
Conference
business is up 30 per cent since Bristol-based i.d.space created
new facilities from part of the Lord Mayor's private apartments
in a project that combined restoration with creative design. |
| |
Carol
Rutter, of i.d.space, said the brief was to maintain the essential
period character of the rooms while enabling them to be used for
functions and business conferences. |
| |
The
project, undertaken as a joint venture between The Guild of Guardians
and Bristol City Council, also rescued some of Bristol's heritage
when the design team organised the restoration of antique furniture
which had been tailor made for the house in 1875 for the Lord Mayor
of that time, John Proctor. |
| |
"The
furniture had been in storage for some time but we had chaises,
chairs, sofas, tables and dressers fully restored and now they are
showpieces of the new facilities," she said. |
| |
The
refurbished conference suite, has attracted some major new clients
to use the facilities. |
| |
David
Clark, the Lord Mayor's secretary said: "We have always had
a beautiful Victorian venue but now we can offer modern conferencing
facilities while preserving the integrity of the period interior. |
| |
"The
renovated suite, complete with original antiques, is a talking point
amongst all those who use the facility. |
| |
"We
have had conferences, away-days and seminars, and we can honestly
say that our visitors have all been delighted with the luxurious
and unique surroundings and the quality of service that they receive." |
